Design and built natural playground at the Honeysuckle Teahouse with Giles Blunden.

    Commissioned by the town of Hillsborough to design and build a Bee Hotel located in Gold Park, Hillsborough NC. It is sited next to an existing community pollinator garden. My submission was chosen from a design competition put on by Orange County Arts Commission and the town of Hillsborough NC.  https://artsorange.org/vitamin-o-builder-woodworker-david-hinkle/

    Designed and built Koi pond and a Brick and stone Pizza Oven for the family patio. 

    Offer landscape design-build services for residential clients. (Primarily friends, family and neighbors)

    Project management and lead carpenter for construction of the Honeysuckle Teahouse - https://www.facebook.com/honeysuckleteahouse/ and the Community Barn Kitchen at Pickard Mt. Eco Institute -https://eco-institute.org, Chapel Hill, NC . Worked closely with Giles Blunden on design and construction of both projects. Worked with Tim Toben on Site/Landscape masterplanning and installation at the Honeysuckle Teahouse.  Dec 2012 - May2014

    Carolina Country Builders, Chapel Hill, NC - November 2010 to October 2011

    Assist in all aspects of construction (including carpentry, layout, masonry and demolition) for this excellent residential design/build company.

 

    Alphin Design Build Co., Raleigh, NC1995 to 1997 and July 2006 to July 2008

    Assist in all aspects of construction (including carpentry, layout, masonry and demolition) for this award winning and legendary residential design/build company.

 

    Blunden Studio, Carrboro, NCAugust 2004 to July 2006    

Prepare architectural construction drawings (residential). Responsible for landscape design matters for residential clients. Assist in layout of concept plan for co-housing development. Prepared series of residential plans for sale on-line, researched possible avenues for on-line sale of plans, and arranged for sale of plans on selected site. 

    

    Meadowsweet Gardens and Patios, Inc., Durham, NC   2002-2004

    Responsible for landscape design (Hardscapes and Master Planning) and construction details, and supervision and implementation of construction projects. This collaboration with Meadowsweet Gardens was a seamless continuation of the work and projects started with Blue Rose Patios taken to the next level with the brilliant gardens of Meadowsweet.

 

    Blue Rose Patios and Gardens, Inc., Chapel Hill, NC   1997-2001

    Establish and run residential landscape design company. Company offered residential landscape design services, installation and maintenance of plants, and installation of hardscape structures. Responsible for all design matters, client meetings, project bidding, and supervision and implementation of construction projects.

 

    Center for Accessible Housing, Raleigh, NC   1994-1995

    Home Modification Clinic:  Evaluate residences of disabled persons and make recommendations for improving accessibility.

 

PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS AND INFLUENCES:

    Woodcarving; brick and stonework.

    Ecological design, green building, permaculture, Christopher Alexander (A Pattern Language), Jersey Devil design build, John Connel - Yestermorrow Design/Build School. 

 

OTHER ACTIVITIES:    Conducted masonry and outdoor mosaic workshops; designed projects incorporating alternative building materials (Bamboo, strawbale, salvaged and recycled materials).
